HIGHROAD / CUSTOMER NEED
Student car shipping
Student car shipping needs a plan for vehicle release, campus or off-campus access, and who can receive the car around move-in dates. A semester deadline is not an automatic delivery guarantee.

What should students and parents plan before shipping?
Confirm where the car may be delivered before choosing an arrival date. A campus residence, off-campus apartment, and private home can have different parking and commercial-loading rules. Contact the property or campus about access rather than assuming a carrier can enter.
A student may not be at destination when the vehicle arrives. Discuss an authorized representative and the provider’s handoff requirements. If a parent is the booking contact but the student receives the car, keep the names and responsibilities clear.
What details help us assess your request?
Include pickup/delivery ZIP codes, vehicle information, condition, service preference, and move-in constraints. Explain who releases the vehicle, who receives it, and when the student is reachable.
- State the first day the destination permits delivery.
- Disclose campus access, garage, and parking restrictions.
- Explain a trip or orientation date if transport timing matters.
How do I plan cost and timing around a semester?
Compare transport options for the same route and vehicle. Do not assume a student discount, reserved campus slot, or fixed-day service unless it is explicitly offered and documented in the booking terms.
Ask for pickup availability and a separate delivery estimate. Keep alternate travel arrangements if the student needs a vehicle on a specific day. A form submitted with a move-in date does not establish carrier availability for it.
How should a student’s vehicle be prepared?
Remove valuables and loose belongings, photograph condition, and follow the assigned carrier’s fuel or battery instructions. Do not pack dorm items in the vehicle without written acceptance. Make sure keys, the pickup contact, and the receiving person are ready for inspection and documentation.
A practical planning example
For a car moving from New Jersey to a student apartment in Gainesville, confirm the lease handover date and complex access. If the student arrives after the estimated delivery window, arrange an approved receiver rather than assuming campus storage is available.
This is a planning example, not a scheduled route or a completed Highroad shipment.
Can my car be delivered straight to a college campus?
Only if the campus location allows safe and legal truck access and the handoff can be arranged. A dorm address is not automatically a loading area. Ask campus housing or transportation staff about permitted locations, commercial vehicle access, parking, and move-in restrictions.
For a student headed to a campus in Boston, Austin, or Tempe, give the actual receiving site and move-in dates. A nearby approved handoff may be more practical than a crowded residence-hall entrance. Transport does not include a campus parking permit or permission to leave the car.
How do I time shipping around orientation or semester move-in?
Provide the vehicle-ready date, campus arrival date, and when someone can receive it. Ask for separate pickup and transit estimates. A university’s fixed move-in slot does not confirm that a carrier can arrive inside that slot.
If the car is needed for a first-day commute, plan a fallback for that period. Explain whether delivery before arrival is possible through an authorized contact. We do not publish a generic semester shipping schedule; the route, equipment, and handoff requirements need an individual check.
Can my parent book the shipment and attend pickup?
Identify who owns the vehicle, who requests transport, and who will handle each handoff. Confirm any authorization the transporting provider requires. A parent at the home address and a student at the campus destination can have different availability and time zones.
Keep the agreed contacts clear so collection does not depend on reaching someone who is on a flight or in class. Do not put sensitive documents in the website form. The callback can clarify the information needed to arrange authorized pickup and delivery.
Can I ship my luggage, mini-fridge, or dorm boxes inside?
Do not assume the car can serve as a moving container. Ask for the actual carrier’s written belongings policy and remove valuables and loose items. The provider may restrict quantity, placement, weight, or coverage; an ocean leg may have different requirements.
Explain any intended contents before booking rather than packing first and discovering a restriction at pickup. Vehicle transport is distinct from shipping dorm furnishings. The safest way to compare quotes is to use the same vehicle and the same agreed contents policy.
Do students get a discount, and what affects the price?
We do not publish an unverified student discount. Request a quote for the actual route, vehicle, condition, dates, and trailer preference. Ask about any available pricing option during the callback and confirm its terms instead of assuming student status changes the rate.
A home-to-campus move from Seattle to Los Angeles and a purchase headed from Atlanta to Ann Arbor have different origins, access, and readiness. Flexibility may widen the options assessed, but it does not guarantee a lower price or a particular pickup day.
What about shipping home for summer or to another school?
Treat the return or next-semester move as a new route and date assessment. Confirm where the car will be when the term ends and whether campus housing closes before collection. If travel home is booked, arrange an authorized pickup contact if needed.
Use the quote form to explain “college move,” the campus area, your receiving availability, and any parking restriction. Read the handoff guide before assuming delivery at the dorm door. These examples describe planning, not university partnerships.
Student car shipping: common questions

Can I pack college belongings in the car?
Do not assume personal items are accepted or covered. Follow the provider’s written instructions.
Can a parent handle the request?
Yes, but clearly identify the pickup and receiving contacts and confirm any authorization requirements before handoff.
