Ship vs. Drive Your Car: Complete Cost Calculator
Compare your whole trip, not a shipping quote against fuel alone. Keep actual cash costs separate from an optional value for time or wear. Enter zero for a cost you have intentionally excluded; blanks remain unknown.
Free planning worksheet. No contact information is required for a result. Entries stay in this page while it is open; the tool does not send or automatically save them. Download your result before leaving or reloading.
How this tool works
Gasoline energy = miles ÷ MPG × assumed fuel price. For an EV, use the entered charging total instead. Driving cash total adds energy, hotels, additional meals, tolls, other expenses and actual unpaid time. Shipping cash total adds the entered quote, owner travel, transfers and mobility. Optional wear and personal time value are shown separately and are never automatically combined with unpaid time.
An example using hypothetical inputs
Hypothetical: 1,000 miles at 25 MPG and $3/gallon gives $120 in fuel. A $100 hotel total, $40 added meals, $20 tolls and $0 other/unpaid costs produce $280 driving cash cost. An $800 entered shipping quote plus $100 owner travel and $0 transfers/mobility gives $900 shipping cash cost. This case favors driving on those inputs; no universal distance rule is used.
What to confirm before relying on the result
No live rates, route calculation, tax deduction, depreciation rate or delivery promise is supplied. Avoid counting the same flight, fuel or lost time twice.
Use current information from the actual seller, property, manufacturer and accepting provider. This worksheet does not independently verify your answers. A result is not a booking, provider approval or a guaranteed price, date or coverage outcome.
