EV shipping service
EV shipping needs the exact model, battery condition, operational status, and route. Mainland loading and Hawaii ocean acceptance are separate checks; follow the actual provider’s preparation instructions.

What is different about shipping an electric vehicle?
Do not apply gasoline-car instructions automatically to an EV. Battery charge, transport or shipping modes, key access, and vehicle controls can require model-specific guidance. Tell us whether the vehicle powers on, moves, and has warning messages.
Damaged batteries, collision damage, or an inoperable vehicle need explicit disclosure before any acceptance discussion. A regular mainland transport option does not establish that an ocean carrier accepts the same vehicle. Enclosure and vehicle powertrain are also separate choices.
What details help us assess your request?
Provide make, model, year, whether it is fully electric or a plug-in hybrid, operational condition, origin/destination, and dates. Explain visible damage, battery concerns, modifications, and any movement limitation.
- Identify the actual vehicle instead of simply writing “hybrid.”
- For Hawaii, include the island and direction of travel.
- Do not submit app passwords, access tokens, or account credentials.
How do route acceptance and preparation affect timing?
Ask what transport is available for the exact vehicle and whether additional acceptance checks are needed. Discuss the pickup window separately from delivery or vessel timing. A charged vehicle and a form submission do not guarantee acceptance.
At the October 9, 2026 review, Matson’s published FAQ excludes EVs and plug-in hybrids, while Pasha Hawaii publishes conditional acceptance and booking restrictions. Confirm current rules and the required booking method before arranging terminal delivery.
How should I prepare the battery and controls?
Follow the assigned provider’s written battery-charge and shipping-mode instructions together with model-specific manufacturer guidance. Do not assume a universal charge percentage. Arrange usable keys and required handoff access. If the battery condition changes or warning messages appear, notify the shipment contact before pickup.
A practical planning example
For an EV moving from Dallas to Orlando, describe its exact model and operational status. For the same car going to Honolulu, request a separate ocean acceptance check instead of assuming the mainland arrangement extends to Hawaii.
This is a planning example, not a scheduled route or a completed Highroad shipment.
Can I ship an electric car that runs and drives normally?
Request transport with the exact model, condition, and route. An EV’s weight, dimensions, operating procedures, and handoff requirements should be checked like other vehicles, with battery-related concerns disclosed. Tell us whether it can enter the mode needed for loading and whether keys or access devices are available.
Do not assume the provider will charge the vehicle during transport. Discuss the required charge level and manufacturer instructions before pickup. If the destination is Hawaii, acceptance and preparation for the ocean leg need an additional check.
What battery percentage should I leave before shipping?
Follow the instructions for the assigned transport provider and the specific vehicle; there is no single percentage we can honestly prescribe for every route. Ask how much charge is required for loading and handoffs, whether monitoring affects battery drain, and what to do if the charge changes before collection.
Mainland trucking and an ocean shipment can have different acceptance rules. Do not charge to an arbitrary figure based on a generic article, and do not assume charging is available at a holding facility. Confirm instructions before terminal delivery.
What if my EV has a battery warning, flood damage, or collision damage?
Disclose it before requesting ordinary transport. A car that still powers on is not necessarily suitable for routine loading or shipment. Damage involving high-voltage components needs specialist safety assessment; do not conceal a warning or treat a suspected battery problem as only a dead starter battery.
Seek guidance from the manufacturer or a qualified service professional on safe recovery and transport. NHTSA explains EV battery safety concerns. This page does not provide emergency instructions or confirm acceptance of a damaged battery vehicle.
Can I ship an EV or plug-in hybrid to Hawaii?
Acceptance is ocean-carrier-specific and must be confirmed for the exact shipment. Current policies differ between providers and may change. State the model, powertrain, condition, direction of travel, and island. Do not treat “hybrid” as precise enough to distinguish a plug-in hybrid from another configuration.
Check the actual provider’s current Matson preparation information or Pasha Hawaii vehicle FAQs as applicable. These references are independent guidance, not a claim of partnership. Confirm approval before planning terminal delivery.
How do I handle keys, phone access, and loading mode?
Tell the transport contact what physical keys, cards, or fobs will be supplied. A phone-only access arrangement may not be suitable for handoffs. Provide the vehicle-specific operating instructions and identify any transport mode or alarm setting that the provider asks you to prepare.
Do not share account passwords in the website form. Ask how authorized access will be arranged securely. Photograph the vehicle and record the battery state and any existing warnings at handoff, keeping them with the condition paperwork.
What changes an EV shipping price or schedule?
Vehicle size and weight, trailer choice, operating condition, route, dates, and loading access all belong in the quote. Ocean acceptance and sailing arrangements are separate considerations for Hawaii. There is no automatic EV surcharge or uniform EV transit period stated here.
For a Seattle-to-Austin move, explain receiving access and when someone can take delivery; for a San Diego-to-Honolulu request, identify the road and ocean legs needed. These are examples of scope, not published route schedules. The callback request lets us clarify the plan before booking.
EV shipping service: common questions
Can every EV ship to Hawaii?
No universal acceptance rule applies. Ocean carriers have different vehicle and booking restrictions; confirm the current rules for the exact request.
What charge level should I leave?
Use the assigned provider’s instructions for your vehicle and route. Do not apply one generic percentage to all shipments.
Can a damaged or non-running EV be shipped?
Disclose the damage and condition before requesting acceptance. Equipment and carrier policies may restrict the shipment.
