HIGHROAD / TRANSPORT TYPE

Overseas auto transport

Overseas auto transport begins with a destination-country, port, ownership, and vehicle acceptance review. Submit the countries and vehicle details; no worldwide coverage, customs clearance, or sailing is promised by the form.

What must be checked before an international vehicle shipment?

A vehicle that can travel within the U.S. may not qualify for import at the intended destination. Country rules, ownership documents, vehicle age or specification, and ocean-carrier acceptance need review before choosing a transport method.

Roll-on/roll-off and container transport are possible methods to discuss where available; neither is automatically offered for every route or vehicle. Identify the actual ocean provider, who handles export/import steps, and which road and terminal legs are included. This request page does not claim that Highroad operates vessels or holds ocean intermediary credentials.

What details help us assess your request?

Give origin and destination countries, cities or ports if known, vehicle year/make/model, powertrain, condition, dimensions, desired dates, and ownership or financing status at a general level. Do not send title scans or identity documents through the inquiry form.

  • State whether the vehicle is moving permanently or temporarily.
  • Explain whether port collection or destination delivery is needed.
  • Disclose damage, EV batteries, and non-running condition.

What should an overseas quote and timeframe include?

Ask which road transport, terminal handling, ocean freight, documentation services, destination charges, storage, and other work are included or excluded. Duties and taxes are not established by a shipping inquiry. Confirm the responsible parties and applicable terms.

Export filing and terminal deadlines can precede sailing. U.S. Census guidance sets an advance filing requirement for covered used self-propelled vehicle exports; confirm applicability and the current process with the authorized export professional. Do not assume every shipment has the same paperwork or timetable.

How should overseas vehicle documents and acceptance be verified?

Check ownership/financing permissions, destination import eligibility, carrier acceptance, and the required documentation before sending the car to a terminal. Use the approved document process after the responsible providers are identified. The Federal Maritime Commission provides licensing information for ocean transportation intermediaries; verify the relevant provider rather than relying on a shipping website’s wording.

A practical planning example

If you want a vehicle moved from a U.S. seller to an overseas destination, start with the destination country and eligibility checks before selecting a U.S. departure port. A mainland pickup quote does not prove that the car can be imported or booked onto a vessel.

This is a planning example, not a scheduled route or a completed Highroad shipment.

Can you ship my car to any country?

Submit the destination for a scope and availability review; we do not promise every country, port, or vehicle is eligible. Give the destination country and city, proposed port if known, vehicle details, ownership status, condition, and preferred dates. Destination admission rules and the available shipping arrangement must both be checked.

An international inquiry is different from confirmed worldwide coverage. We discuss what needs assessment before a booking, including the responsible ocean provider and any specialist services. Do not buy a vehicle for export solely because the website has an overseas shipping page.

Should I request roll-on/roll-off or container shipping?

Ask which method is available and appropriate for the specific vehicle and route. Roll-on/roll-off and container arrangements have different acceptance, loading, and handling requirements. A vehicle’s condition, dimensions, accessories, and destination can limit the available options.

State whether the vehicle runs and moves safely, whether other cargo is intended, and what protection you need. Do not assume belongings can be shipped inside the car or that crating, container loading, or unpacking is included. Those details belong in the written scope.

What paperwork is needed before exporting a vehicle?

Confirm the ownership documents, export filings, deadlines, and port procedures with the responsible qualified parties. Requirements depend on the vehicle and shipment. A purchase invoice does not automatically resolve title, lienholder permission, or export compliance.

Check current CBP used-vehicle export guidance and the export port’s instructions. Do not send titles, passports, or financial records through the website lead form. During the callback, clarify who is responsible for documents and filings and how required records will be shared securely.

Does the quote include import duty, customs clearance, and delivery abroad?

Only the items expressly included should be treated as covered by the quote. Ask separately about U.S. pickup, terminal handling, ocean freight, export services, destination handling, customs clearance, duties, taxes, storage, and inland delivery. Some costs may depend on the destination authorities or another provider.

Ask who calculates and collects each charge and whether it is estimated or confirmed. If the receiving country’s vehicle eligibility is unresolved, resolve it before shipping. Highroad does not guarantee tax treatment, registration approval, or destination compliance.

How long does overseas car shipping take?

The total timeline includes preparation, inland transport, port readiness, sailing, and destination release. A voyage estimate alone is not a door-to-door delivery promise. Documentation, acceptance, receiving arrangements, and any onward movement can change when the vehicle becomes usable at its destination.

For a pickup near Newark or Los Angeles, state whether you need transport from a home or whether terminal delivery is already arranged. These are scope examples, not a published export-port network. Ask for the confirmed milestones and the consequences of missing a terminal cutoff.

How do I verify the company handling the ocean movement?

Ask for the identity and role of the ocean carrier or intermediary and review the applicable booking and coverage terms. The Federal Maritime Commission explains ocean transportation intermediaries. This reference does not establish Highroad as an FMC-licensed provider.

Clarify who provides updates, handles a change, and receives a damage or service complaint on each leg. Keep documents and condition records. Request a callback with the country, vehicle, route, and dates; suitability and responsibilities must be confirmed before committing to an international shipment.

Overseas auto transport: common questions

Do you ship to every country?

No worldwide destination promise is made here. Submit the exact origin and destination for a suitability and availability review.

Are duties and customs clearance included?

Not automatically. Confirm the scope, responsible professionals, and destination charges before booking.

Can a financed vehicle be exported?

Discuss ownership and lender permission with the responsible provider and lender. Do not assume financing documents alone authorize export.
