HIGHROAD / CAR SHIPPING GUIDE
Car shipping costs.
Understand the quote.
Car shipping cost depends on your exact route, vehicle, condition, transport type, and dates. Request a callback for your shipment rather than relying on a nationwide average that may not include what you need.

01 / GET A RELEVANT PRICE
How much does it cost to ship a car?
A useful price needs your route, vehicle, condition, service type, and pickup window. Highroad does not publish a flat nationwide price or an instant calculator result. Submit the shipment details, and we’ll call to discuss the available option and pricing.
A short trip does not necessarily cost a fixed fraction of a cross-country move. Vehicle size, available transport on the route, loading requirements, timing, and what the quote includes all matter. Treat an unusually low headline number as a starting point for questions, not proof that the shipment is cheaper.

The details that can change your shipping quote
Exact route and access
Pickup and delivery ZIP codes define the request. A residential street, rural property, auction yard, and terminal can require different handoffs.
Vehicle dimensions
A sedan and a full-size pickup occupy different space. Roof racks, lift kits, oversized tires, and trailers should be disclosed.
Operational condition
Starting, driving, rolling, steering, and braking are distinct. Loading equipment or recovery restrictions may affect the option.
Open or enclosed trailer
Enclosed space and suitable low-clearance loading equipment can change availability and cost. Compare equivalent services.
Date flexibility
A broad pickup window gives a different scheduling request from one fixed day. Availability for a deadline must be checked.
Ocean and terminal legs
Hawaii can include mainland trucking, terminal handling, ocean transport, and collection arrangements. Confirm every included leg.

How do I compare two car shipping quotes fairly?
Compare the same vehicle, route, dates, and service—and ask what each price includes. An open-trailer estimate is not directly comparable with an enclosed booking price. A mainland-to-port figure is not the same as a complete Hawaii itinerary.
| Check | Ask before you decide |
|---|---|
| Price status | Is this an estimate, a quoted option, or the confirmed booking price? |
| Payment | When is a deposit due, who receives it, and when is the balance payable? |
| Schedule | What pickup window and delivery estimate apply? Is any date guaranteed in writing? |
| Included work | Are special loading, terminal charges, and all requested transport legs included? |
| Possible changes | What happens if the vehicle will not start, the address changes, or access is restricted? |
| Cancellation | What are the cancellation and refund terms before and after arrangements are confirmed? |
Keep the written quote and shipment terms together. An answer given on a call should also be reflected in the booking information when it affects your decision.

Examples that explain why the cheapest quote may not fit
New York to Tampa, seasonal move: Compare prices using the same receiving date and trailer type. If one quote assumes a flexible pickup week while another promises a specific day, they are offering different terms.
Los Angeles to Atlanta, auction purchase: Confirm the release paperwork and collection deadline. A low transport figure does not resolve storage charges if the car is not released or pickup cannot happen in time.
Chicago to Phoenix, non-running vehicle: “It does not start” is incomplete if a wheel is locked or keys are missing. Disclosing the real condition helps avoid discussing equipment that cannot load the vehicle.
Orlando to Honolulu: Ask whether the figure includes mainland pickup, the ocean leg, and the intended destination handoff. These are planning examples, not Highroad price quotes or completed jobs.

How can I keep the request practical without compromising the shipment?
- Use an accurate description. Correct dimensions and condition prevent a quote based on the wrong equipment.
- Explain useful flexibility. Give the earliest pickup date, latest workable date, and any days when nobody is available.
- Ask about an accessible handoff. A safe meeting point may solve an address-access problem, but discuss it rather than changing the location yourself.
- Choose the service for the vehicle. Open transport may fit an everyday car; enclosure or specialized loading may matter more for another vehicle.
- Check the full scope. Storage, terminal, or release issues can affect the total plan even when they are outside the transport quote.

Do I pay when I submit the Highroad form?
No. The website form collects a quote request; it does not take payment or confirm a booking. Payment arrangements and the actual shipment terms are discussed before you decide to proceed. Do not send card details, banking information, or identity-document images in the notes field.
For more detail, read the transport options and the pre-booking checklist.

Why did my quote change after I gave more details?
Check whether the shipment scope changed or whether the original figure was only an estimate. A different address, date, trailer type, vehicle size, operating condition, or loading requirement can alter the job being assessed. Ask the provider to explain the reason and the revised scope in writing before agreeing.
For example, a standard pickup description may omit a lift kit and roof rack; an auction sedan may have locked wheels rather than simply fail to start. Give accurate details early and ask which assumptions the quote uses. Do not assume every change is justified or every initial estimate is a confirmed booking price.
What should I ask about deposits, cancellation, and extra charges?
Ask when payment is due, what triggers any charge, and which conditions apply if the shipment changes or is canceled. Read the actual terms before making payment. The Highroad website form takes no payment and is a request for contact, not a paid booking.
Ask about access-related handling, waiting, storage, terminal costs, or other charges where they apply, without assuming all shipments incur them. Clarify customer-caused changes separately from provider schedule changes. Keep copies of the quote and agreement so you can compare the promised scope with the final arrangements.
