Motorcycle, ATV, UTV, and Golf Cart Shipping Requirements
A motorcycle, ATV, UTV, or golf cart needs an equipment-specific transport plan. Supply the actual dimensions, weight, power source, and operating condition before a carrier accepts the job. A standard car-shipping quote does not prove that the truck has suitable loading or securement equipment.
Describe the vehicle as it will travel
Give the make, model, year, number of vehicles, and any modifications. Measure with installed roofs, mirrors, windshields, lift kits, cargo boxes, and wide tires included. Tell the carrier whether the vehicle rolls, steers, brakes, starts, and can be put in the required transport mode.
For electric carts and off-road vehicles, identify the battery type and disclose damage, leaks, recalls, or unusual modifications. A damaged battery requires assessment before acceptance; it should not be presented as an ordinary operable vehicle.
Confirm loading and securement
Ask whether the service uses a liftgate, ramp, enclosed trailer, pallet, or other method, and what preparation is required. Discuss low clearance and whether the pickup location provides level, usable access.
Commercial cargo securement is governed by applicable federal motor carrier requirements. Let the responsible carrier specify suitable securement points and equipment. Do not attach straps to fragile bodywork or assume accessories are structural anchor points.
Resolve documents and detachable equipment
Ask what ownership evidence is required for a vehicle that is not titled or road registered. Keep the VIN or serial number and seller-release details available. Shipping acceptance does not make an off-road vehicle legal to drive on public roads.
Remove loose helmets, tools, chargers, bags, and detachable accessories unless the carrier expressly accepts them. Record any approved equipment on the handoff paperwork and check whether it is insured. Photograph the vehicle from all sides, including exposed mechanical parts and existing scratches.
Treat ocean transport separately
For Hawaii, obtain the ocean operator's instructions for that exact vehicle class. Motorcycle fuel instructions can differ from car instructions, and battery-powered carts can require additional information. Use the named carrier's current requirements rather than applying a generic car fuel or charge target.
Before confirming the move, ask who handles each leg, where handoffs occur, and whether terminal staff can unload the vehicle in its actual condition. A clear acceptance decision before pickup prevents an expensive rejection at the next transfer point.
Plan your shipment
Request a shipping callback with the route, vehicle, condition, and preferred timing. This is an inquiry; it does not book transportation, take payment, establish registration eligibility, or confirm carrier acceptance.
